A Journey of Resilience Through Beekeeping

Fatima Mohammed , a 21-year-old woman from Bani Yazeed area in Bani Saad District, Al-Mahwait Governorate, lives in the remote village of Al-Rabet with her husband and three children (two sons and a daughter).
Her village is located over 160 kilometers from the district center and takes about four hours to reach. The lack of essential services, such as clean water and healthcare, adds to the challenges both her and her family face.
Fatima's living conditions are extremely difficult. Her husband, who once worked in the public sector, had to go to another governorate in search of income to cover basic needs after government salaries were suspended due to the country’s situation getting worse. Fatima remained behind with their children, including a son with a physical disability, shouldering the family's burdens alone.
In pursuit of a better future, Fatima participated in the 15-day beekeeping training program implemented through the project “Strengthening the Resilience of Women's Groups Through Training and Improving Their Income Situation in Hajjah, Sa'dah and Al Mahwit, Yemen”. Upon completion of the training, she received essential beekeeping equipment, including four beehives and an empty apiary.
She chose this field because her region’s natural environment, with its diverse trees, provides excellent conditions for beekeeping.
With the new skills she has acquired, Fatima hopes to produce honey and other bee products during short harvesting seasons, eventually increasing the number of hives. This would allow her to generate quality products quickly and affordably.
Fatima dreams of using the income from selling bee products like honey and beeswax to improve her family’s living conditions, increase their diet options, and enroll her kids in school.
