When Hope Turns into Life... The Story of Zahra from Al-Zaydiyah

In a neighborhood of Al-Zaydiyah District in Al-Hudaydah Governorate, lives Zahra Muhammad Ali Hassan, a forty-five-year-old woman who bears the responsibility of a family burdened by harsh circumstances. Her husband suffers from chronic asthma, preventing him from working, leaving Zahra as the sole provider for her family in the absence of any source of income.

The family lived in a simple hut, struggling daily to secure their basic needs amidst significant psychological pressures stemming from poverty and instability. The suffering was not only material but also left clear psychological scars on Zahra and her family.

Amidst these circumstances, Zahra was reached by one of the activities of the National Foundation for Development and Humanitarian Response (NAHR) under a protection project. The intervention included providing initial psychological support that helped her alleviate stress and fear, giving her a sense of safety and reassurance, alongside assessing her humanitarian situation and basic needs.

During the period from August 1 to November 31, 2025, Zahra received cash assistance that enabled her to take an important step towards stability. With strong will, she invested this assistance in purchasing a number of sheep to establish a small project that would provide her with a sustainable income. She also allocated part of it to secure the basic food needs of her family.

Over time, signs of change began to appear in her life; the family's living conditions improved, their sense of security strengthened, and she regained her self-confidence after becoming able to meet her children's needs with dignity.

Zahra says:
"This assistance was not just temporary support; it was a new beginning... It restored hope to me and made me feel capable of providing for my children with dignity."

Zahra's story is not an exception, but a living model of the power of humanitarian interventions when provided timely and in the right way. It is the tale of a woman who moved from vulnerability to self-reliance, from need to hope, confirming that simple support can make a big difference in the lives of the most vulnerable families.
